Nehelamite

Nehelamite is the designation of Shemaiah, a false prophet who sent unauthorized letters from Babylon to the priest Zephaniah in Jerusalem after Jeremiah's letter to the exiles (Jer. 29:24–32). Shemaiah urged the priests to rebuke and imprison Jeremiah for his letter counseling the exiles to settle in Babylon and seek its welfare. Jeremiah received a word from God pronouncing judgment on Shemaiah and his descendants: he would not live to see God's restoration of his people. The meaning of "Nehelamite" is uncertain — it may indicate his place of origin or family name.
