Nehushta

Person Name

Name meaning: "made of brass"

Nehushta (meaning of brass) was the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem and the queen mother under her son Jehoiachin (Jeconiah), king of Judah (2 Kgs. 24:8). She was carried into Babylonian captivity together with Jehoiachin in the first deportation of 597 B.C. (2 Kgs. 24:15). Jeremiah may allude to her in his lament over the exile of Jeconiah, addressing the king and his mother together (Jer. 22:26; 13:18). Her name's association with bronze may connect symbolically with the Nehushtan — the bronze serpent.
