Nergal-Sharezer

Nergal-Sharezer was a Babylonian official present at the fall of Jerusalem in 586 B.C., named among the princes of Nebuchadnezzar who sat in the Middle Gate of Jerusalem after the city was breached (Jer. 39:3, 13). His title Rab-mag indicates a high court or military office. He has been identified by some scholars with Neriglissar, the Babylonian king who succeeded Nebuchadnezzar's son Evil-Merodach and whose name in cuneiform is Nergal-shar-usur. If the identification is correct, he was Nebuchadnezzar's son-in-law and present at the siege in an official capacity.
