Nimrim, Waters of

Place

The Waters of Nimrim appear in prophetic oracles of judgment against Moab in Isaiah 15:6 and Jeremiah 48:34, where they are described as desolate — "the waters of Nimrim shall be desolate" — as part of the devastation coming upon the Moabite land. The location is likely in southern Moab, possibly identified with Wadi en-Numeirah, a seasonal stream flowing into the southeastern end of the Dead Sea. The drying up of these waters represents the comprehensive destruction of Moab's agricultural resources and the reversal of its fertile watered lands.
