Nimshi
Person Name
Name meaning: "rescued from danger"
Nimshi (meaning rescued from danger) was the grandfather (or possibly father) of Jehu, the commander who became king of Israel after being anointed by Elisha's messenger (2 Kings 9:2; 1 Kings 19:16). Jehu is consistently called "the son of Nimshi" in the biblical text, though 2 Kings 9:2 identifies his father as Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, making Nimshi the grandfather. The phrase "son of Nimshi" became proverbial for Jehu's notoriously reckless and furious driving (2 Kings 9:20): "the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously."
