Nisan

Nisan (meaning standard or miracle) is the first month of the Hebrew sacred calendar, corresponding to March–April, adopted from the Babylonian month name Nisanu during or after the exile. Before the exile it was known as Abib (green ears). The Passover was celebrated on the fourteenth of Nisan (Exodus 12:2–6), and the Feast of Unleavened Bread began on the fifteenth, making it the most liturgically significant month in Israel's year. Nehemiah 2:1 places Nehemiah's conversation with Artaxerxes in the month Nisan, and Esther 3:7 records Haman casting lots in Nisan to determine the date for the destruction of the Jews.
