Nobleman

The term nobleman (Greek basilikos, meaning royal or belonging to the king) appears in the Gospel of John's account of a royal official whose son lay dying at Capernaum. He traveled to Cana where Jesus was and implored him to heal his son. Jesus challenged his demand for signs, then declared "Go thy way; thy son liveth." The man believed the word of Jesus and departed; on his way home his servants met him with news of his son's recovery, which confirmed it happened at the exact moment Jesus had spoken (John 4:46–54). This healing — the second sign Jesus performed in Galilee — demonstrates that Christ's authority operates across distance and that faith grounded in his word, rather than in visible miracles, is the pathway to salvation.
