Oded

Oded was the name of two figures in the Old Testament. The first was the father of the prophet Azariah, who went out to meet King Asa of Judah after his victory over Zerah the Ethiopian and encouraged him to reform (2 Chronicles 15:1–8). The second and more remarkable Oded was a prophet of the LORD in Samaria who intervened when the army of the northern kingdom brought 200,000 captives from Judah to Samaria after a victory under King Pekah. Oded confronted the soldiers at the city gate, declaring that God's wrath had permitted the victory but that they had gone beyond divine mandate in enslaving their kinsmen — and that they too stood guilty before God. His bold intervention, supported by four leading men of Ephraim, succeeded: the captives were clothed from the spoil and returned to Jericho (2 Chronicles 28:9–15).
