Olympas

Olympas (meaning heavenly) was a Christian at Rome greeted by Paul in Romans 16:15: Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them. The name is a shortened form of Olympiodorus (gift of Olympus). Nothing further is known about Olympas beyond this brief mention, though the grouping with Philologus, Julia, and Nereus suggests a household church unit meeting together. Ancient tradition identifies Olympas as one of the seventy disciples sent out by Jesus (Luke 10:1) and as a later martyr, but these traditions are not verifiable.
