Onesiphorus

Person Name

Name meaning: "who brings profit"

Onesiphorus (meaning who brings profit or profit-bringer) was a Christian from Ephesus warmly commended by Paul in 2 Timothy 1:16–18 for his loyal friendship. When Paul was in chains in Rome — a circumstance that had caused others to abandon him — Onesiphorus searched for Paul diligently and found him, refreshing his spirits and not being ashamed of his chains. Paul expresses gratitude both for Onesiphorus's service in Ephesus and for this final act of courage in Rome, praying that the Lord would grant him mercy on the Day of the Lord. His household is greeted in 2 Timothy 4:19.
