Oreb, The rock of
Place
The rock of Oreb was the site east of the Jordan, on the western side of the Arabah or the Jordan valley, where the Midianite prince Oreb was captured and executed by the Ephraimites during the rout following Gideon's victory (Judges 7:25). The site was memorable enough to be named after the event. Isaiah 10:26 invokes it in a promise of God's coming judgment on Assyria: as when he struck Midian at the rock of Oreb. The exact location has not been identified.
