Ozni

Person Name

Name meaning: "an ear; my hearkening"

Ozni (meaning an ear or my hearkening) was a son of Gad and the ancestor of the Oznite clan within the tribe of Gad (Numbers 26:16). He is listed in the second census of Israel in the wilderness. The same individual appears as Ezbon in Genesis 46:16, the parallel list of Gad's sons who went to Egypt — a discrepancy likely due to scribal variation or an alternate name. As a founding clan member of a Gadite family, Ozni's descendants were among those who settled the Transjordan territory east of the Jordan River.
