Paltite

The Paltite is a gentillic designation identifying Helez, one of David's thirty mighty men, as a native of or connected with a place called Palti or Peleti. In 2 Samuel 23:26 Helez the Paltite is listed among the heroes of David's elite warrior corps. The same individual is called Helez the Pelonite in 1 Chronicles 11:27, suggesting a slight textual variation between the parallel lists.

Helez the Paltite also served as the commander over the seventh monthly division of David's standing army as described in 1 Chronicles 27:10, responsible for the Ephraimite contingent in the seventh month. The town or clan from which the designation Paltite derives is not clearly identified in Scripture, though it may reference the same Peleti associated with the Pelethites who formed part of David's royal guard.
