Parah

Parah (meaning: heifer) was a town in the tribal territory of Benjamin, listed among the settlements assigned to that tribe in Joshua 18:23. Its location is generally identified with modern Khirbet el-Farah, situated several miles northeast of Jerusalem in the hill country. The town gave its name to the Wady Farah, a valley that drains toward the Jordan.

Parah is mentioned only once in Scripture (Joshua 18:23), in the boundary and settlement list of Benjamin, and no events of biblical significance are recorded there. Its name possibly reflects the presence of cattle or agricultural activity in the region. The site's identification remains approximate, based on the geographical sequence of the Benjamin town list and the preservation of the ancient name in the modern wadi designation.
