Pedahel

Pedahel (meaning: God redeems or redeemed of God) was a prince of the tribe of Naphtali appointed by God as one of the commissioners tasked with assisting Moses and Eleazar the priest in dividing the land of Canaan among the tribes (Numbers 34:28). He is mentioned only in this single appointment, which reflects the representative structure of the land distribution — each tribe contributing a leader to oversee fair allocation.

Pedahel was the son of Ammihud, a common priestly or noble name in the period. His name, meaning divine redemption, was fitting for a leader involved in the fulfillment of God's covenant promise to give Israel the land. Beyond this administrative appointment, no further record of Pedahel's activities appears in Scripture. He represents the largely anonymous cadre of tribal leaders whose faithful service in specific administrative roles made possible the ordered settlement of Canaan.
