Pelatiah

Pelatiah (meaning: deliverance of the Lord) is the name of several individuals in Scripture. One was a son of Hananiah and grandson of Zerubbabel, preserving the Davidic line in the post-exilic period (1 Chronicles 3:21). Another sealed the covenant renewal under Nehemiah (Nehemiah 10:22). A third was a Simeonite captain who led his clan against the Amalekite remnant in the hill country of Seir during Hezekiah's reign (1 Chronicles 4:42).

The most theologically significant Pelatiah was a prince of the people whom Ezekiel encountered in a vision at the east gate of the temple (Ezekiel 11:1). Along with Jaazaniah the son of Azzur, he was giving wicked counsel to Jerusalem's leaders, urging false confidence rather than repentance as the Babylonian threat loomed. As Ezekiel prophesied against them, Pelatiah fell dead — an acted judgment within the vision that illustrated the fate awaiting Jerusalem's corrupt leadership and moved Ezekiel to intercede for the remnant (Ezekiel 11:13).
