Perazim, Mount

Place

Mount Perazim was the site where David defeated the Philistines in battle, and David named it Baal-perazim ("Lord of the breakthroughs") because God broke through his enemies "like a breaking forth of waters." Isaiah later invokes the same name in his prophecy of judgment: "the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim... to do his deed, strange is his deed!" — applying the imagery of sudden divine intervention against Israel's own complacency and the Assyrian threat. The location is not precisely identified but was near the Valley of Rephaim southwest of Jerusalem.
