Perez

Perez (meaning: divided; rupture) was the son of Judah and Tamar, born at the same time as his twin brother Zerah in an unusual birth in which Zerah's hand appeared first but Perez broke through first, causing the midwife to say "What a breach you have made for yourself!" The breach-name stuck. Perez became the more prominent line: his descendants the Perezites were the largest clan in Judah, David descended from him through Hezron and Ram, and Matthew's genealogy of Jesus runs through Perez.
