Perseverance of the Saints

The perseverance of the saints is the theological doctrine that those whom God has genuinely regenerated and justified will continue in faith and ultimately reach eternal salvation — not because of their own strength but because of God's preserving grace. It is grounded in texts such as John 10:28–29 (no one shall snatch them from my hand), Romans 8:29–30 (those foreknown are glorified), and Philippians 1:6 (he who began a good work will complete it). The doctrine does not deny the reality of apostasy or backsliding but holds that true saving faith will, through the Spirit's work, ultimately endure.

Sometimes termed "eternal security" or "once saved, always saved," the doctrine is affirmed in Reformed and many Baptist traditions while disputed by Arminian and Wesleyan theologies that emphasize the possibility of final apostasy.
