Pethuel

Pethuel (meaning: mouth of God; persuasion of God) was the father of the prophet Joel. He is mentioned only in Joel 1:1 in the superscription "The word of the Lord that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel." Nothing further is known about him, and his name appears nowhere else in Scripture. The identification of Joel's father by name follows the convention of prophetic books that name the prophet's father as a form of identifying the prophet's lineage and potentially his prophetic authority.
