Pharpar

Pharpar (meaning: that produces fruit) was one of the two rivers of Damascus — along with Abana — which Naaman the Syrian army commander preferred over the Jordan River when Elisha told him to dip seven times in the Jordan to be cleansed of his leprosy. "Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel?" he protested. The Pharpar is generally identified with the Nahr el-Awaj, a river flowing from the slopes of Hermon south of Damascus into the eastern desert, supplying the southern part of the Damascus plain.
