Philadelphia

Philadelphia (meaning: love of a brother) was a city in the Roman province of Asia in western Asia Minor (modern Alasehir, Turkey), founded by the Attalid king Attalus II Philadelphus and named for his fraternal loyalty. Situated near significant fault lines, it suffered devastating earthquakes, including the great earthquake of A.D. 17. The letter to Philadelphia in Revelation 3:7–13 is one of the two letters (along with Smyrna) that contain only commendation and no rebuke — promising the church that Christ has set before it an open door that no one can shut and will keep it from the hour of trial coming upon the whole world.
