Philetus

Philetus (meaning: amiable; beloved) was a false teacher in the Ephesian church, named alongside Hymenaeus in 2 Timothy 2:17–18 as one whose teaching had spread like gangrene. The specific error attributed to them was teaching that the resurrection had already occurred — a realized eschatology that denied the future bodily resurrection Paul taught. This teaching was "upsetting the faith of some." Hymenaeus is also condemned in 1 Timothy 1:20, where Paul says he handed him over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme, suggesting he had previously been disciplined.
