Phlegon

Phlegon (meaning: zealous; burning) was a Christian at Rome greeted by Paul in Romans 16:14 alongside Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and other unnamed brothers. Nothing further is recorded about him in Scripture. Like others in the closing greetings of Romans, Phlegon likely belonged to one of the household communities that made up the early Roman church. The name is of Greek origin and was commonly borne by freedmen and slaves in the Roman imperial period.
