Phut

Phut (or Put) was the third son of Ham in the Table of Nations (Genesis 10:6) and the progenitor of the Libyan peoples of North Africa. The name is used in the prophets for Libya or a North African people allied with or subject to Egypt: Jeremiah 46:9, Ezekiel 27:10, 30:5, and 38:5 mention Put alongside Egypt, Ethiopia, and other African nations in oracles of judgment. The Revised Version and most modern translations render the name as Put or Libya in prophetic passages, distinguishing the people from the Libyan nation proper while maintaining the connection to the North African region.
