Phygellus

Phygellus (meaning: fugitive) was a Christian in the province of Asia who turned away from Paul, named alongside Hermogenes as one of those who abandoned the apostle in his time of need. Paul writes to Timothy that "all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes" (2 Timothy 1:15) — a statement likely referring to a specific failure to support Paul during his second Roman imprisonment rather than a general apostasy. Their departure is contrasted sharply with the faithful loyalty of Onesiphorus, who sought Paul out in Rome and was not ashamed of his chains.
