Pi-beseth
Place Name
Name meaning: "abode of the goddess Bahest or Bast"
Pi-beseth (meaning: abode of the goddess Bastet) was an Egyptian city in the eastern delta region corresponding to the ancient Bubastis (modern Tell Basta), a major cult center of the cat-headed goddess Bastet. Ezekiel 30:17 includes Pi-beseth in his oracle against Egypt, predicting that its young men will fall by the sword and the city will go into captivity. Archaeological excavations have confirmed Bubastis as an important New Kingdom and Late Period city, and the discovery there of extensive cat mummies confirms its religious character.
