Pinnacle

Concept

The pinnacle of the temple was the point in Satan's second temptation of Jesus, where Satan transported Jesus to the highest point of the Jerusalem temple complex and challenged him to throw himself down, citing Psalm 91's promise of angelic protection. The Greek word pterygion (literally "a little wing" or "a projection") likely refers to the southeastern corner of the temple mount, which according to Josephus was built up to an enormous height over the Kidron Valley. Jesus's refusal to put God to the test by an unnecessary and dramatic test of miraculous protection is the climax of the second temptation sequence.
