Plague
Plagues in Scripture are sudden, widespread afflictions sent by God as judgments on sin, the most famous being the ten plagues of Egypt by which God demonstrated his sovereignty over Pharaoh, the Egyptian gods, and the forces of nature before the Exodus. The plagues progressed in intensity from the Nile turning to blood through frogs, lice, flies, livestock disease, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and the death of the firstborn. Numbers records several plagues sent against Israel in the wilderness for rebellion, including a deadly plague at Kibroth-hattaavah and a plague stopped by Phinehas's action at Peor. In the New Testament plagues appear prominently in Revelation's seven bowls and seven trumpets as eschatological judgments on a rebellious world.
