Pleiades

The Pleiades (Hebrew kimah, meaning "cluster" or "heap") is the well-known star cluster in the constellation Taurus, mentioned three times in the Old Testament. In Job 9:9, God is celebrated as the one who made the Pleiades along with Orion and the Bear. In God's speech from the whirlwind, Job is challenged: "Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, or loose the belt of Orion?" (Job 38:31) — an assertion of God's sovereign control over the ordered movements of the heavens, which no human power can bind or release. Amos declares that God is the one "who made the Pleiades and Orion" (Amos 5:8) in the context of calling Israel to seek him. The Authorized Version renders kimah as "seven stars" in Amos.
