Pommels

Pommels (Hebrew gulot, "bowls" or "rounded protuberances") were the rounded bowl-shaped capitals on top of the two great pillars — Jachin and Boaz — that stood before Solomon's temple (2 Chr. 4:12–13; 1 Kgs. 7:41–42). Each capital was five cubits high, decorated with nets of checker-work and two rows of pomegranates. The term "pommel" appears only in 2 Chronicles; the parallel passage in 1 Kings uses "bowls" for the same feature. The capitals were among the ornamental bronze work cast by Hiram of Tyre for Solomon's temple.
