Pudens
Person Name
Name meaning: "shamefaced"
Pudens was a Roman Christian who joined Eubulus, Linus, and Claudia in sending greetings to Timothy in Paul's second letter to him, written from his final Roman imprisonment (2 Tim. 4:21). His Latin name means "modest" or "bashful." Early tradition, without solid historical basis, identified him as the husband of Claudia mentioned in the same verse and associated him with a Roman senator. His mention alongside Linus (later traditionally counted as the first bishop of Rome after Peter) places him in the early Roman Christian community.
