Raamiah

Person Name

Name meaning: "thunder, or evil, from the Lord"

Raamiah (meaning thunder from the LORD) was one of the leaders who returned to Judah from the Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel (Nehemiah 7:7). He appears in the parallel list in Ezra 2:2 under the name Reelaiah — a variant spelling common in the transmission of post-exilic names. Raamiah was presumably a leader of one of the returning family groups, though nothing further is recorded about him. His name is one of the relatively rare theophoric names incorporating the root ra'am (thunder) rather than the more common el or yah elements.
