Rachal

Place Name

Name meaning: "to whisper; an embalmer"

Rachal (meaning to whisper or an embalmer) was one of the towns to which David sent portions of the Amalekite spoil after his raid on Ziklag (1 Samuel 30:29). It was among the cities of Judah to which David distributed gifts as part of his ongoing cultivation of supporters in the region before he became king. The exact location is unknown; it appears only in this list. Some manuscripts read Carmel instead of Rachal, suggesting possible textual uncertainty.
