Raguel

Raguel (meaning shepherd of God or friend of God) is used in Numbers 10:29 as an alternative name for Reuel, the father-in-law of Moses. The same individual is elsewhere called Jethro (Exodus 3:1; 18:1–2), Reuel (Exodus 2:18), and Hobab (Judges 4:11; Numbers 10:29). The variation in names reflects either multiple designations for the same person in different source traditions, or the distinction between Reuel as the father and Hobab as the son who served as guide for Israel in the wilderness. The name Raguel is the Greek form used in the Septuagint and appears also in the book of Tobit.
