Raphael

Raphael (Hebrew: "God has healed") is named in Jewish tradition as one of the seven archangels before the throne of God. He appears as a named angel only in the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit, where he accompanies Tobias on his journey to Media disguised as a kinsman, helps him secure his bride Sarah, drives away the demon Asmodeus, and restores Tobit's sight — then reveals his identity: "I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand ready and enter before the glory of the Lord" (Tob. 12:15). He is also identified in some traditions with the angel who troubled the waters at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:4, in some manuscripts).

Raphael is not named in the canonical OT or NT. The tradition of seven archangels is reflected in Revelation 8:2 ("the seven angels who stand before God") and in Jewish intertestamental literature (1 Enoch, 2 Esdras). Only Michael and Gabriel are named in the canonical scriptures.
