Rechab

Rechab was the name of several biblical figures. The most theologically significant was Rechab son of Rimmon the Beerothite, who, with his brother Baanah, murdered Ish-bosheth son of Saul in his bed hoping to gain David's favor; David instead condemned them to death for killing an innocent man (2 Samuel 4:2–12). A different and more honored Rechab was the ancestor of the Rechabites — a clan of strict traditionalists who maintained the nomadic lifestyle and abstinence from wine in honor of their ancestor Jonadab son of Rechab, who had assisted Jehu in his purge of the Omrides (2 Kings 10:15–23). Jeremiah honored the Rechabites as a model of covenantal faithfulness (Jeremiah 35).
