Regem-melech

Person

Regem-melech (meaning friend of the king or stone of the king) was one of two men sent by the people of Bethel to Jerusalem to inquire of the priests and prophets whether the fasts observed during the exile should continue now that the temple was being rebuilt (Zechariah 7:2). The mission prompted Zechariah's response about the purpose of true fasting and true justice. Regem-melech appears only in this passage and nothing further is known of him.
