Rehob

Rehob (meaning breadth or open space) was the name of two towns and two individuals in the Old Testament. The most important town was Rehob in Asher (Joshua 19:28, 30), which was among the cities the tribe of Asher failed to drive the Canaanites from (Judges 1:31). A second Rehob was in the far north of Canaan — the scouts sent by Moses entered Canaan as far as Rehob near the entrance to Hamath (Numbers 13:21). As a personal name, Rehob was the father of Hadadezer, the Aramean king of Zobah whom David defeated (2 Samuel 8:3, 12), and a Levite who sealed Nehemiah's covenant (Nehemiah 10:11).
