Rekem

Rekem (meaning vain pictures or embroidered) was the name of two individuals and possibly a place in the Old Testament. The most prominent was Rekem, one of the five Midianite kings slain by Israel in the punitive campaign following the Baal-peor apostasy (Numbers 31:8; Joshua 13:21). A second Rekem was a Calebite, the son of Hebron in the genealogy of Judah (1 Chronicles 2:43–44). Some scholars associate the personal name with the Nabataean city of Petra, known to later sources as Rekem, though this connection is uncertain.
