Remaliah

Remaliah (meaning the exaltation of the LORD) was the father of Pekah, who murdered Pekahiah king of Israel and seized the throne, reigning approximately 740–732 BC (2 Kings 15:25–31). Isaiah refers to Pekah contemptuously as the son of Remaliah rather than by his royal name — a dismissive periphrasis reflecting Isaiah's low regard for Pekah's legitimacy and character (Isaiah 7:1, 4–5, 9; 8:6). The combined threat of Pekah and Rezin of Damascus against Jerusalem provided the occasion for Isaiah's great Immanuel prophecy (Isaiah 7:14).
