Remeth

Remeth (meaning height) was a town in the territory of Issachar listed in Joshua 19:21. It is generally identified with Ramoth in Issachar (1 Chronicles 6:73) and with Jarmuth in the parallel list of Joshua 21:29. The same site appears under three names due to variant spellings and source traditions. It was a Levitical city allocated to the Gershonite families in the tribal allotment of Issachar. The site is tentatively identified with Kokab el-Hawa in the lower Jezreel valley.
