Rephael

Person Name

Name meaning: "the physic or medicine of God"

Rephael (meaning the healing of God or God has healed) was the first son of Obed-edom, listed among the gatekeepers of the temple in David's administrative organization (1 Chronicles 26:7). He was described as a capable man (ben chayil), the same phrase used of Boaz and other men of valor. The Obed-edom family produced a notable number of gatekeepers and temple servants, perhaps because of their association with the ark of the covenant that had rested in Obed-edom's house. Rephael appears only in this genealogical-administrative context.
