Rezin

Rezin (meaning good-will or messenger) was the last king of Damascus (Syria), a contemporary of Ahaz of Judah and Pekah of Israel. He allied with Pekah to invade Judah in the Syro-Ephraimite War (c. 734–732 B.C.), pressuring Ahaz to join their anti-Assyrian coalition; when Ahaz refused, they besieged Jerusalem (2 Kings 16:5; Isaiah 7:1). Isaiah delivered his famous Immanuel prophecy in this context (Isaiah 7:14). Rather than trust in God, Ahaz appealed to Tiglath-pileser III of Assyria for help; Tiglath-pileser captured Damascus and killed Rezin (2 Kings 16:9), fulfilling Isaiah's prediction that within sixty-five years Ephraim would be broken (Isaiah 7:8).
