Rimmon

Rimmon (meaning exalted or pomegranate) is used in several senses in the Old Testament. As a personal name, Rimmon of Beeroth was the father of Baanah and Rechab, the Benjaminite officers who murdered Ish-bosheth, Saul's son (2 Samuel 4:2). As a place name, Rimmon appears as a city in Zebulun (Joshua 19:13), as En-rimmon in the Negeb (Joshua 15:32; Nehemiah 11:29), and as the Rock of Rimmon, a stronghold in Benjamin where six hundred Benjaminites took refuge after the Gibeah disaster (Judges 20:45–47). As a divine name, Rimmon (or Hadad-Rimmon) was the storm deity of Syria, whose temple in Damascus Naaman the Syrian worshipped; Naaman asked Elisha's indulgence for bowing in the house of Rimmon when accompanying his king (2 Kings 5:18).
