Rosh

Rosh (meaning the head, top, or beginning) is the name of a son of Benjamin listed among those who went down to Egypt with Jacob (Genesis 46:21). He is not listed among Benjamin's sons in Numbers 26:38–40 or 1 Chronicles 8, suggesting either early death without descendants or a textual variant. Rosh also appears in Ezekiel 38:2–3 and 39:1 in the Hebrew phrase nesi rosh meshech — translated either as "prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal" or as "chief prince of Meshech and Tubal" (where rosh is an adjective meaning chief rather than a proper name). Whether Rosh in Ezekiel denotes a distinct nation or simply the title "chief" is a major question in the interpretation of Ezekiel 38–39.
