Ruhamah

Ruhamah (meaning having obtained mercy or pitied) is not a personal name of an individual but a symbolic name in Hosea's prophecy. God commanded Hosea to name his daughter Lo-ruhamah (not pitied) as a sign that God would no longer have mercy on Israel (Hosea 1:6). The reversal of this name — Ruhamah — is announced in Hosea 2:23 as the future promise of restoration: "I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people." Paul applies this oracle directly to the calling of both Jews and Gentiles into the new covenant people of God (Romans 9:25), making Hosea's symbolic naming of his daughter a prophecy of the scope of divine mercy in the gospel age.
