Sabtecha

Person

Sabtecha (also spelled Sabtechah) was the fifth and last son of Cush listed in the Table of Nations (Gen. 10:7; 1 Chr. 1:9), making him a great-grandson of Noah through Ham and Cush. He appears in the most shadowy corner of the Cushite genealogy: unlike his more prominent brothers Seba and Raamah, no ancient region or people-group has been identified with any confidence as the descendants of Sabtecha. Some scholars have proposed a connection with the ancient city of Samydake on the Persian Gulf or with regions of the Arabian peninsula or East Africa, but these suggestions remain speculative. The name appears only in the two parallel genealogical lists and carries no narrative significance beyond its place in the Table of Nations' comprehensive mapping of the post-flood world.
