Sachar

Sachar (meaning hire or reward) is the name of two men in the Old Testament. The first was the father of Ahiam, one of David's thirty mighty warriors (1 Chr. 11:35); his son is also called "Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite" in the parallel list of 2 Samuel 23:33, suggesting that Sachar and Sharar may be variant spellings of the same name, or that the two accounts reflect different textual traditions. The second Sachar was a son of Obed-edom the Gittite, one of the Levitical gatekeepers appointed by David to serve at the temple (1 Chr. 26:4). Obed-edom's household was remarkably blessed — the ark of the covenant rested in his house for three months (2 Sam. 6:11–12) — and his eight sons, including Sachar, served as capable men for temple service (1 Chr. 26:6–8).
