Sala
Person
Sala (also spelled Salah, Shelah, or Selah in different textual traditions) was a descendant of Arphaxad (or Cainan) and an ancestor of Abraham, appearing in the genealogy from Shem to Abraham (Gen. 10:24; 11:12–15; 1 Chr. 1:18, 24). In Luke's genealogy of Jesus, he is listed between Cainan and Heber (Luke 3:35–36). The name's meaning is uncertain but has been connected with the root for a shoot or sprout. In the Genesis account he lived 433 years, fathering Eber at age thirty and living four hundred years more. He stands in the patriarchal genealogical bridge connecting the Noahic flood generation with the Abrahamic covenant line, one of the ancestors through whom the promise of the Messiah passed down the centuries.
